WCAG 2.1 AA Compliance
WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) are published by the W3C to make web content more inclusive.
Level AA is the most common compliance target for organizations. It balances accessibility with practicality, covering the majority of barriers faced by users.
Meeting WCAG 2.1 AA is often a legal requirement under frameworks like the European Accessibility Act (effective June 28, 2025).
WCAG 2.1 AA is organized under four principles (POUR):
Information must be presented in ways users can perceive.
Interfaces must be usable with different input methods.
Content and operation must be easy to comprehend.
Content must work reliably across technologies.
Text must have sufficient contrast against background.
Keyboard focus must be visible when navigating.
Content should not restrict viewing in portrait or landscape.
Content must reflow without loss of information up to 400% zoom.
Functions requiring multipoint gestures must have alternatives.
Avoid lawsuits and meet EU/US accessibility laws.
Accessible sites reach wider audiences, including 61 million people with disabilities in the US and 135 million in the EU.
Accessibility ensures equal participation in digital life.
